Short Movie “Blade Runner” Homage To 80’s Science Fiction Classics

TimeOdd - Science Fiction

Luka Hrgovi? and Dino Julius, Croatian filmmakers that spent last 3 years in our garage filming an original short movie homage to 80’s science fiction classics. We grew up on movies like “Alien”, “The Terminator” and “Star Wars”, and especially big influence to us was Ridley Scott’s timeless masterpiece, “Blade Runner”, so we wanted to make a sort of a love letter to some of those movies. In short, “Slice of Life” was born!

As SF movies nowadays rely heavily on CGI and 3D effects, losing the atmosphere and movie magic we grew up with and were swept away by, we decided to make “Slice of Life” the old-school way. That means using only practical effects and film techniques like miniatures, matte paintings and in camera special effects. We’ve built everything from scratch, with no budget and only friends and family to help us out, and it’s been taking up every moment of our spare time since 2014.

Although the principal shoot of “Slice of Life” is behind us, we still have a lot of work to do, mainly in creating and filming miniatures and models, so we started a Kickstarter campaign to help us finish our movie. Thus far, SF fans and the community have been very supportive of our project, and we hope that we’ll soon have a chance to repay them with a one-of-a kind trip down the nostalgia lane.

We also built all sets for real…

We lit the miniature buildings with Christmas lights…

You can find all kinds of computer parts on them!

…and had to teach ourseves how to film them.

As the project is completely self funded we’ve been using everyday junk to make miniature buildings.

And transformed an old car into a FUTURE CAR!
