A Traditional Metal One, Hotel Keys Are Astonishingly Easy To Lose.

There’s nothing worse than deciding to hit the hay in an unusual city and in hotel only to have to sheepishly explain to reception what you went and did.

But keys – as physical items, anyway – could soon be a thing of the past as hotel empire Hilton is launching ‘mobile-enabled room key technology’ to its branches.

In other words, the ability to unlock your room with a phone app.

If you’re staying in one of 10 of the first hotels in the UK to introduce it, you’ll be able to use the app to open your own room as well as any other areas of the hotel you’d usually need a physical key for.

It activates the day before you arrive and, once your room is ready, you’ll get a notification to pass by the front desk and get it enabled.

And as you approach your room door you can press the ‘unlock’ button on the app – secret spy style.

This may seem like sorcery to us Brits, but it’s pretty commonplace abroad with 1,700 hotels already using it.

One particular feature already available on distant shores – only to Silver, Gold and Diamond Hilton Honors members – will be life changing for introverts.

The ‘straight to room’ option means you can sneak by the front desk and straight to bed, avoiding all human contact.
