Disney Is Officially Casting Will Smith As Genie In Aladdin

TimeOdd Stories - Disney's Alladin

Disney has officially announced Will Smith will play Genie in Guy Ritchie’s remake of Aladdin, along with revealing who’ll play the two lead roles.

At Disney D23 Expo on Saturday (July 15), the company confirmed previous rumours by announcing Will Smith will follow Robin Williams’ footsteps as the Genie in the upcoming remake.

Naomi Scott was also announced to be taking the role of Princess Jasmine, while relative newcomer Mena Massoud will play Aladdin himself.

It certainly sounds promising, and we can’t imagine anyone else possibly coming close to Robin Williams’ iconic turn as the all-singing blue wonder.
The original Disney classic was the highest grossing film of the year in 1992, and won Academy Awards for best score and best song for A Whole New World.

If you’re unfamiliar, Naomi Scott was recently seen as the Pink Ranger in the latest Power Rangers reboot, while Mena Massoud played Tarek Kassar in 2017’s Jack Ryan TV series.

A release date on the remake is yet to be announced, but filming is expected to begin in early 2018.
